MOQ Guide for Auto Cooling Parts: Radiators and Condensers
An MOQ of 30 pieces and an MOQ of 500 pieces can both be honest numbers for the same radiator.
What differs is what the order covers, who is producing it, and how much of the setup cost the buyer is willing to carry.
Most buyers treat MOQ as a wall to argue down. It is actually a cost structure you can read — and once you can read it, there is usually a quantity that works for both sides.
What an MOQ actually pays for
A radiator cannot be made one at a time at a sensible cost. Four fixed costs sit behind every production run:
• Line changeover — core assembly, brazing furnace loading and leak-test setup happen per model run, not per unit. Practical floor: roughly 20–50 units.
• Raw material minimums — aluminium coil, tube and fin stock come from the mill in fixed roll or bundle sizes. Bigger cores and unusual specs push the floor higher.
• Packaging print runs — printed cartons have their own printing minimum, often 500–1,000 units. This is the most common reason an MOQ jumps to 500+.
• Inspection and documentation — 100% leak testing plus batch reports is labour booked for the whole run.
That is why MOQ is negotiable in a way unit price usually is not. You are not asking the factory to sell at a loss — you are asking who absorbs the fixed cost. A supplier who will not cut the MOQ but will quote a separate setup fee is being straightforward. One who drops it by 80% without changing anything else is telling you the first number was invented.
Typical MOQ ranges by supplier type
MOQ in this industry varies more by supplier type than by product. The same model might be quoted at 10 pieces by an exporter and 300 by the factory that makes it.

Aftermarket factory, stock model |
30–50 pcs |
The industry-standard entry point for radiators and condensers |
|
Aftermarket factory, slower model |

Tooling exists, but the model joins the next scheduled batch |
|
Factory with printed packaging |
300–500 pcs |
Driven by carton printing minimums, not by production |
|
Private label / OEM programme |
500–1,000 pcs |
Branding, packaging design, dedicated production slots |
